As I created this portfolio, I reflected on my experiences with education, both my own K-8 education and my pre-service experience through the education department at Montana State University, which have all been in the same area around Bozeman, Montana. The classroom situation I have focused on directly correlates to this community and school district:
Location:
-Bozeman, Montana Town Population: -40,000, growing population and infrastructure -15,000-20,000 with connections to Montana State University Community: -The community consistently votes in favor of school district ballots. -One of the larger urban areas of the state, surrounded by suburban and rural areas which all feed into the school system |
School:
-K-5 school -Population about 500 students Classroom -First-grade, 1 of 3 -20-25 students in each class -1 teacher per class, occasional aids for reading mostly for intervention with struggling students -Close to even split of male and female students -Likely one or two students with 504, but the possibility of several students in the class with some level of IEP, the school district has made it a priority to screen students who may be in need of an adjusted educational path. -Technology available is a supply of a 3-4 laptop and tablet carts to be checked out |
